Diamonds | Fantasy colour diamonds

The identification of the colour in the diamond goes from D to Z. Exactly the opposite happens in fantasy coloured diamonds; their value grows with the strength and intensity of colour from Z onwards.

Large stones with vivid colours are extremely rare. One diamond out of ten thousand has a Fancy Colour. The rarest colours are red, green, pink and blue. The yellows and browns follow close behind and, having a lower price than the others, they are more easily able to fulfill the wishes of women. In Fancy Colour diamonds, the inclusions, or clarity, are overshadowed if the stone observed face-up presents an attractive colour. This is not the case if the durability of the stone is going to be compromised.

Fantasy Diamonds are usually cut to maximize return of light. The best cut is the one that gives the most attractive colour when face up.

Fancy Diamonds are classified by increasing degree of intensity of colour: Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light, Fancy to Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid, Fancy Dark, Fancy Deep. The latter two have higher prices. With the same characteristics, a colourless stone compared to a Light Yellow or Brown has more value. The question changes if it is a Fancy Deep.
